Beaker notebook on OSX 10.11.2

Beaker notebook looks amazing.  It promises to be able to work on the same objects using R and python scripts.

Instructions here for how to get R working.  Using homebrew, I believe these instructions require a few modifications, principally around

install.packages('jpeg')
install.packages('png')

If using homebrew, it’s necessary to indicate the location of the jpeg or png library by exporting an environment variable

export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/Cellar/curl/[version number]/lib

or by creating/modifying Makevars in the .R directory before running the R session that installs the required library.
